Position: 3rd Grade Teacher

Location: International School of Tokyo
Employment Type: Full-Time (8am to 4pm)
Start Date: August 25th

Compensation:

  • Salary: Up to ¥420,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role:

As a 3rd Grade Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters academic and social development. You will develop and implement lesson plans that align with our curriculum and inspire a lifelong love of learning in your students. Our ideal candidate is creative, patient, and committed to providing high-quality instruction in a nurturing atmosphere.

Subjects Taught:

  • English Language Arts (ELA) – Reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Japanese Language (日本語 / Nihongo) – Hiragana, katakana, kanji, conversation, grammar, and cultural studies.
  • Mathematics – Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Science – Life science, earth science, physical science, and environmental studies.
  • Social Studies – Geography, world history, Japanese history and culture, global citizenship, and government.
  • Technology & Digital Literacy – Basic coding, computer skills, internet safety, and responsible digital usage.
  • Art – Drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
  • Music – Singing, instrument practice, music theory, and cultural music appreciation.
  • Physical Education (PE) – Sports, fitness, movement, teamwork, and health awareness.
  • Health & Wellness – Nutrition, personal hygiene, emotional well-being, and social skills.
  • Foreign Languages – Spanish, French, Mandarin, or other languages offered.
  • Performing Arts – Drama, theater, dance, and public speaking.
  • Moral Education & Ethics – Character development, responsibility, and respect for diversity.
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) – Hands-on projects and problem-solving activities.
  • Cultural Studies – Japanese and international traditions, customs, and cross-cultural understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • English Language Arts (ELA) – Reading, writing, grammar, and speaking skills.
  • Japanese Language (日本語 / Nihongo) – Hiragana, katakana, basic kanji, and cultural studies.
  • Mathematics – Addition, subtraction, multiplication, measurement, and geometry.
  • Science – Life science, earth science, physical science, and simple experiments.
  • Social Studies – Geography, Japanese history, global cultures, and community awareness.
  • Art – Creative expression through drawing, painting, and crafts.
  • Music – Singing, rhythm, instruments, and Japanese songs.
  • Physical Education (PE) – Movement, sports, teamwork, and fitness.
  • Health & Wellness – Hygiene, nutrition, and emotional well-being.
  • Technology & Digital Literacy – Basic computer use and internet safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans in alignment with school curriculum standards.
  • Foster literacy development through phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, and writing exercises.
  • Teach fundamental mathematics concepts, including addition, subtraction, place value, measurement, and geometry.
  • Introduce basic scientific principles, such as weather and seasons, plant and animal life cycles, and simple physics concepts.
  • Engage students in social studies lessons covering community helpers, geography, historical figures, and cultural traditions.
  • Provide enrichment activities in art, music, and physical education to support holistic development.
  • Instill healthy habits through hygiene, nutrition, and social-emotional learning lessons.
  • Utilize interactive and hands-on teaching strategies to keep students engaged.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to guide their learning journey.
  • Collaborate with parents, fellow teachers, and school administrators to support student success.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Japanese.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification (if required by state or country).
  • Experience in teaching 1st grade or early elementary levels preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy development in early learners.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Passion for working with young children and fostering a positive learning environment.
